The Troutbeck Medley: 4 Wainwrights

Hike number two on walking the Wainwrights in 36 walks was a wet one, a pissing down, no visibility, where the feck am I going, I’m going to get blown off of the side of a hill type of wet one.

I was with Harry on this one, weather forecast was looking pretty good, light drizzle in the morning and then clearing up after 9am. That defo never happened.

I’m not even including the GPX file for this one I’m afraid as we got lost more than once haha, zero visibility and this also included a few parts that didn’t have a proper footpath so added to the fun. You can see the map below and clearly see where we fooked up

This is what happens in the mountains though, all good and part of the fun and games.

Unfortunately not much to report on this haha.

I’ve since drove past and the valley and surrounding area is great, only down the road from Windermere.

There are parts of this walk that aren’t on an ‘official’ path so a bit of cross country is needed, with having literally zero visibility we couldn’t gage were to go so had to take sensible guesses using the ald Garmin watch and phones when we got a bit of signal.

We even called it a day and left out the last Wainwright as we were mentally knackered and it wasn’t exactly safe coming down Troutbeck Tongue, we’d both slipped multiple times and I didn’t fancy breaking an ankle in these shit conditions, not a particularly tough one but the weather can make or break a hike or day out as you know.

We’ll be back to tick off Wansfell at some point.
