The Greater Kentmere Horseshoe: 10 Wainwrights

This was the first route out of the 36 walks to complete the Wainwrights that I picked. 

A tough challenging one to start off my Wainwright bagging list again. 

Don’t make the mistake I made, get to the parking spot nice and early, it’s free but it’s also limited. I had to walk an extra few kms as I had to turn around and park much further than I wanted to down the road.

Early bird catches the worm and all that, must have been a lazy bugger that morning.

Route Overview

Defo a tough one, only about 5km short on the day than doing the Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge, so it was a superb training day for that anyway.

Feet on fire at the end, did keep up a nice pace of around 13:50 p/km.

Amazing views and always and lucky with the weather. A fairly straight forward circular route overall.

Getting to Gray Crag is a ballache though as it’s sitting out of the way on it’s own and the only way to get to it is to come off of the main route and head there and back on yourself. The ridge on the way to it had amazing views though, so definitely worth it.

Wainwrights were completed in the order within the list above.

Harter Fell was a quad killer as there’s a good bit of ascent towards the end of a long day, so take your time and enjoy.
