The Greater Fairfield Horseshoe: 8 Wainwrights

Starting in Rydal, this loop bags 8 Wainwrights along the way. Hike number four.

Get to the Pelter Bridge car park early if you want to grab a space. Alternatively there’s plenty of parking near the start point of the walk in the roads in and around Dora’s Field.

GPX file is below, feel free to download, but remembering that this is just based off of my activity on the day.

Always remember your own due diligence before heading off into the mountains :)

Route Overview

A nice and fairly challenging day hike, with amazing panoramic views bagging 8 Wainwrights for your peakĀ  tick lists.

Harry and Bali were with me today, belter weather for it and a few stop offs for some scran and taking in the views.

Plenty of ascent, so take your time. The list of Wainwrights are above and are in the order we completed them.

To get to Stone Arthur, this takes you on a slightly steep downhill and there isn’t much of a path, once you’ve crossed the field and then the river (head to the far right for an easier crossing) and are heading over to the summit, you’ll see a path again.

The only thing of note is on the descent back to Rydal, after the last peak of Low Pike, there is some downward scrambling required, nothing too technical but worth mentioning.

Wainwrights completed after this hike: 25
